We already possess the most powerful tool known to humankind i.e. our mind,
but unfortunately, it didn’t come with NLP.

NLP helps you discover the immense power of your mind’s potential, giving you
more control over your thoughts, feelings and actions.

Not a type of therapy, but another technique that hypnotherapists often use, Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP is a learning model devised by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970’s. It looks to assist people help themselves reach a state of ‘excellence’, in happiness/state of mind. Bandler described it in six words: neuro-brain, linguistics-language, programming-behaviour.

NLP refers to learning the language of your mind, and trains the brain to learn new skills, change thought patterns and even behaviour. Overall, it aids goal setting, coping with change and overcoming negative emotional patterns. It’s all about bringing changes in perception, communication and developing response choices in a given situation.

With all life complexities it’s easy to get tripped up, to lose our sense of emotional direction, and to allow unnecessary barriers to prevent us from creating the life we want. When we open our minds to new ways of doing things, new ways of interpreting information /events, our understanding about ourselves and other broadens; as we change our thinking, new and different things start to occur around us.

NLP is a highly effective method for taking control of thoughts, emotions and behaviours. It is based on the principle that all behaviour has a structure, and that this structure can be identified, learned and adapted to create specific positive outcomes. NLP helps us take control of the way we think, and is designed to give more flexibility in our behaviours and our responses to life situations.

Eye Movement Therapy is recognised internationally as an excellent way to support emotional change. It explores undesirable emotions and ways of being, and by teaching resources while inside the problem state, it brings a person more into the present enabling them to stay out of past negative experiences. Essentially, this method involves holding the problem in mind whilst the eyes are moved in different directions. Often, the result is that the issue loses its emotional impact and becomes less upsetting.

Touch Therapy is a healing method, and when applied it generates slow brain wave activity i.e. Delta waves, along with soothing brain chemicals. When something traumatic happens, it can be recorded in the brain permanently in order to keep us safe, but the consequences of this are not always helpful or wanted. When Touch Therapy is applied to the upper arm, palms and face, as part of this process, it delinks the traumatic memory from the distress; you can remember what happened, but it doesn’t bother you anymore.

Grief Support uses a set of tools to address loss no matter what the cause. Counselling is useful to help people discover why they feel a certain way, but the human heart is not rational and doesn’t respond to intellect. Therefore, in order to heal hearts, we need to take actions that address the heart, rather than the head, to allow the release of the pain, the end to all those “I wish I’d said/not said, I wish I’d done/not done” that tend to keep grievers trapped on the mental hamster wheel of pain.

Life Coaching is aimed at helping people meet goals in their personal/working lives by guiding them in the right direction i.e. as a sports coach might do for a sportsperson, although the methods used by individual life coaches will vary greatly, with NLP being the most popular. Coaching is a beneficial process, allowing people to break their negative belief patterns, act more decisively, and set clear goals towards achieving what they want from life. Anyone visiting a coach needs to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things, and needs to commit to the process.

Reiki Wellbeing is a form of energy healing and a very popular complementary therapy; used for health and wellness all around the world. It aims to encourage the flow of energy within the body and to remove blockages in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. By improving one’s energy, Reiki enables deep relaxation, clarity of mind and emotional healing. In addition, it can help reduce the symptoms of chronic pain and illness. When more healing is required to achieve harmony, aura and chakra work can be combined with Reiki.
